Here are some characters you should know in order to understand this story.
Ranofer
Ranofer is the main character in this book. He is very thankful for what very little he gets and is very kind . He first worked to help goldsmiths, but after, was apprenticed by his brother, Gebu, to be a stone cutter. Ranofer often dreams about living on his own away from his brother. In addition, Ranofer suspects that Gebu is a thief.
Gebu
_ Gebu is a wretched, greedy, and terrible man. He is Ranofer's
half-brother left to take care of him after his father's death. Gebu is
suspected of stealing gold by Ranofer.
Ibni
_ Ibni is Gebu's "partner" in stealing gold from Rekh the goldsmith and like Gebu, is very greedy and selfish.
Rekh
_ Rekh is a professional goldsmith whom Ranofer deeply admires. Rekh is very skilled at goldsmithing and cares about others situations.
Heqet
_
Heqet is Ranofer's close friend and is apprenticed to Rekh. Like Ranofer, Heqet is a young boy. Heqet is very loyal to his friends.

The Ancient is a close friend to Ranofer and Heqet. The Ancient is very independent and lives alone with his donkey.
Zau
Zau is the master goldsmith, he is very skilled at his job and is the head of all gold smiths.
Wenamon
Wenamon is another one of Gebu's partners. He is very sneaky, and greedy.
